My Soul To Take by Tananarive Due
This has been a LONG time coming!!!! I read the first book back in 2020. And 6 whole years later here I am finally reading the last book!
Stop here if you have not read this series!! Okay?? I’m gonna be talking spoilers and I’d hate for you to read this and get spoiled. Go get this book and then come back :).
My huge delay in reading this last book of the African Immortals series is mostly cause I was so STRESSED about what was going to happen. And I could not handle the stress knowing that this was the last book. Even with my husband finishing the series and being like “please read it so we can talk!” I delayed and delayed and delayed.
After reading Fledgling (review a few posts back), this book kept swimming in my mind. I knew it was time.
Wow talk about an ending! This was a fantastic ending to this series.
I loved this book. I loved that we got to see more of how powerful Fana is and how she keeps evolving and getting stronger. Though I often felt so worried for her. I really felt for Jessica (sis has been through it!….damn), especially when Jessica was doubting if Fana’s decisions were actually hers. Because that was a huge part of any decision making by anyone! Is this really you? Or does Michel have you? Is he making you say this? Is he forcing consent?
It broke my heart how Jessica was living in the dreamworld where her daughter was still alive and Dawit was not Dawit, he was David. Ugh this part was gut wrenching. But a momma is gonna show up for her kids that’s for sure. Fana said I need you here and Jessica showed up.
About halfway through the book once the set up is done things really snowball to the ending. The book becomes un-put-downable as you race to the ending. And wow what an ending! I wont spoil the very end but this felt like such a good way to end this story. I still have questions about the world but I think that’s for my imagination to run wild with.
Tananarive Due is a favorite author of mine and each book of hers I read I’m just astonished. This was such a good series!
